I’m always looking to find new recipes that can help me with eating the foods that I love but without the things that cause the problems. There is a difference between paleo and primal diets and I will blog about these at a later date, also I will blog about having carbohydrates against not having them, but for now I wanted to write about a little recipe that I stumbled across that is one of my favorite dishes but created for the primal minded person.
This recipe can be made into a full paleo recipe if you want (let me know in the comments if you would like the recipe for this) However this is the primal version so has some ingredients allowed that are not in the paleo version.
500g jar of bolognaise sauce
500g of beef mince
300g of spinach
1 garlic clove
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
250ml of plain Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon of parsley
25g of Parmesan cheese
60g of Mozzarella
Egg white crepes
Brown the beef and drain any fat
separately saute the spinach with garlic clove and the coconut oil
In a bowl mix the yogurt, Parmesan, mozzarella and parsley
Now start layering, add half the sauce in the bottom of a casserole dish, The a layer of the egg white crepes.
Spread half the cheese mixture over this, top this off with 1/3 of the remaining sauce and then half of the beef
Sprinkle half the sauteed spinach, then layer up one more time.
Finish up with one more layer of crepes and remaining sauce, if you have any cheese left then sprinkle on top.
Bake at 180 degrees/gas mark 5 for 40 – 45 minutes or until bubbling, remove from the oven and allow it to sit for 10 – 15 minutes before serving.
And there you have it, a classic dish that is loved by many but with a primal spin on it.
Let me know if you give it a try and what your thoughts on it are.
